Show Them the Truth. | Typographic Poster
Identifying the Goal
The brief for this project called for a poster design to advertise a lecture series by a designer of my choice. The focus of the poster relied on creative use of typography and strong visual hierarchy in order to reflect the chosen designer’s work.
Researching the Designer
My presentation of David McCandless's design work involved his previous infographics, along with the impactful work featured on his “Information is Beautiful” site. McCandless's designs have done much to educate and inspire the public to become more aware of current events, and his legacy greatly influenced my own poster design.
Exploring Iterations
While McCandless’s data visualizations thoroughly examine issues, many of his designs tend to rely on the use of abstract shapes and lines. In doing so, he highlights important information and offers a unique and multi-dimensional perspective. I decided to incorporate these design techniques into my initial iterations, while exploring various ways to combine the usage of both shapes and typography.
